Terms of Use
1. Introduction
BrainDetox is a screen-time tracker and app blocker for Android. By downloading or using the app, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. The App
2.1 What It Does
- Measures how much time you spend in each app
- Lets you set daily limits and focus sessions
- Shows a block screen when a limit is reached
- Optionally blocks selected websites and short-video feeds through the Android accessibility service
- Optionally silences notifications from an app while that app is blocked, if you grant notification access
2.2 Best-Effort Blocking
Blocking is a best-effort nudge, not a guarantee. Android may pause background services, some devices close apps aggressively, and anyone holding the phone can change a setting or uninstall the app.
2.3 Free trial
BrainDetox is free to install and free to use in full for 30 days. No card and no payment details are asked for, and there is nothing to cancel. The trial begins once BrainDetox has the permissions it needs to actually block something — not at the moment you register — and it is available once per account.
When the trial ends, BrainDetox stops working. There is no free version: blocking stops, limits are no longer enforced, and the app opens on a screen asking you to choose a plan. Your limits, schedules, groups and history stay on your phone and will be waiting for you if you subscribe later.
2.4 Plans, billing and renewal
- BrainDetox is sold as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a single lifetime purchase. Every plan unlocks the same app; no feature is held back for a higher tier.
- All purchases are made through Google Play. Google is the seller and takes the payment. We never see or store your payment details, and we cannot charge you outside Google Play.
- Prices are set for each country in Google Play and can change. The price shown on the plan screen at the moment you buy is the price you pay. Taxes are applied by Google Play according to where you are.
- Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically at the end of each period, using the payment method on your Google account, until you cancel. Google charges you within 24 hours of the renewal date. A lifetime purchase never renews.
- You can cancel at any time in Google Play, under Payments and subscriptions › Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not end the period you have already paid for. To avoid a further charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
- If a renewal payment fails, Google retries it and BrainDetox keeps working while it does. If the retries do not succeed, access stops until the payment method is fixed and the purchase is restored.
- If the price of a renewing plan changes, Google Play notifies you before it takes effect and, where Play requires it, asks you to agree. A price change never applies retroactively, and a lifetime purchase is never re-charged.
The Payment Policy in the app sets this out in full. Where it and these terms differ on the mechanics of billing, the Payment Policy governs.
2.5 Refunds
Refunds are handled by Google Play under Google’s refund policy, because Google took the payment; we cannot issue one directly. If something went wrong on our side — a double charge, a payment that did not unlock the app, a purchase that would not restore — write to us and we will support your request with Google.
Nothing in this section limits any refund, cancellation or withdrawal right you have under the consumer law of your own country.
2.6 One account, one phone at a time
A BrainDetox account is for one person and is signed in on one phone at a time. Signing in on another phone signs the first one out.
A subscription belongs to the Google account that bought it. Sign in on the new phone and use Restore purchase, and you will not pay twice for the same plan. One purchase covers one person’s use of the app, not a household or a team.
2.7 Optional permissions
Instant app blocking, website blocking and short-video blocking rely on Android’s accessibility service. Silencing a blocked app’s notifications relies on Android’s notification access. Both are optional, both stay off until you turn them on in Android Settings, and both can be withdrawn there at any time — which stops the feature immediately.
BrainDetox uses these permissions only to enforce the blocks you have set. What each one looks at, and what it does not, is set out in the Privacy Policy.
2.8 Not a medical or therapeutic service
BrainDetox is a self-management tool. It is not a medical device, and nothing in the app is medical advice, a diagnosis, or treatment for any condition, including any form of dependency. If your phone use is causing you serious difficulty, please speak to a qualified professional.
3. Your Responsibilities
3.1 Age and Accounts
- You must be at least 13 to use BrainDetox, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live. Where the law of your country requires it, a parent or guardian must agree on your behalf.
- If you set the app up on a child’s device, the account is yours, you are responsible for how it is used, and you confirm that you have the authority to set that device up in this way.
- Keep your sign-in details private; you are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has used it.
3.2 Acceptable Use
- Do not use the app for any unlawful purpose
- Do not try to bypass, disable or interfere with the app’s blocking mechanisms in order to attack the service
- Do not reverse-engineer, copy, resell or repackage the app
- Do not use the app to monitor another adult without their knowledge
3.3 What you send us
When you write to us or send a bug report, you may attach screenshots or a screen recording. You keep ownership of what you send; you give us permission to store it and use it to answer you and to fix the problem you described.
Please do not send us anything you are not entitled to share. Remember that a screenshot shows whatever was on your screen, which may include other people’s messages and personal information.
4. Ownership
The app, its name, logo, code and design belong to us. You receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use BrainDetox on devices you control, for as long as you follow these terms.
Your screen-time data — your usage history, limits, block lists, focus sessions and PIN — stays yours and stays on your phone; we never receive it. The account, subscription and support information we do hold is described in the Privacy Policy, and it remains yours too.
5. Changes to the Service
We may modify, add or discontinue features, and update these terms with reasonable notice. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app. Continuing to use BrainDetox after a change means you accept the updated terms.
6. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that blocking will be uninterrupted, error-free, or effective against a determined attempt to get around it.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from the app being unavailable, from blocking that does not work as expected, or from time you spend on your phone. Sign-in needs our server; when it is unreachable, the parts of the app that run on the device keep working.
7. Indemnity
You agree to cover us against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your use of BrainDetox in breach of these terms or of the law, or from content you send us that you had no right to send. This does not apply to anything caused by us.
8. Termination
You can stop using BrainDetox at any time by uninstalling it, which removes the limits and usage history held on the device. Deleting your account is a separate step and is described in the Privacy Policy.
Deleting your BrainDetox account does not cancel a Google Play subscription. Play is a separate system and we cannot cancel it for you. Cancel in Play first, then delete the account, or you will continue to be billed for an account that no longer exists.
We may suspend or close an account that is used to attack the service, to break the law, or to monitor another adult who has not agreed to it — and, where we can, we will tell you why first. If we close your account without cause, we will refund the unused part of any period you have paid for, so far as Google Play allows.
